Values – The Unseen Force That Shapes Your Life.
Dear friends,
Welcome to the fourth edition of our life coaching newsletter. If you’ve followed along so far, you’ve explored the power of apology, the impact of gratitude, and the courage to set bold, meaningful goals. Today, we dive into something that shapes everything you do—values.
We often hide behind job titles, roles, and external labels—but who are you without them? When your job, your responsibilities, or your status are stripped away, who remains? What happens when life pushes you to reassess everything?
The answer lies in your values.
Are You Living by Your Values, or Just Existing?
In today’s world, we define ourselves by what we do. We become our careers, our families, our roles—but these are not who we truly are. What happens when these roles change, or when life doesn’t go according to plan? What happens when we find ourselves living for others, or simply going through the motions, disconnected from what truly matters?
Without your values, you’ll never feel truly fulfilled, no matter how many responsibilities you juggle. If you’re not acting in line with your deepest beliefs, your life will feel misaligned. And this is when stress, burnout, and dissatisfaction creep in.
The Cost of Ignoring Your Values
When you live out of alignment with your values, life becomes a series of obligations and compromises. That’s when frustration builds. Research shows that people who make decisions rooted in their core values experience far higher levels of satisfaction and well-being (Source: American Psychological Association). Ignoring your values doesn’t just cost you peace—it drains your energy and your spirit.
So, ask yourself: Are you living according to your values, or are you just meeting the demands of others?
The Pressure of Responsibility: What About Those Who Have Families to Support?
For many, it’s not that simple. You may have a family to support, responsibilities that can’t be avoided, or a career that demands your time and energy. This can make it feel impossible to put yourself first.
But here’s the reality: You can’t pour from an empty cup. If you’re sacrificing your own values just to meet obligations, you risk burning out. You’ll have nothing left to give.
The answer? Realign with your values. It doesn’t mean quitting your job or abandoning your responsibilities. It means making conscious choices that honour who you are—whether that’s setting boundaries, protecting your time, or carving out space for what truly matters to you.
Your Values Are Your Compass
Your values are not abstract ideals—they are your power. They guide you, even when external pressures threaten to pull you off course. Without them, you’re simply drifting through life. But when you live in alignment with your values, decisions become clearer, relationships more meaningful, and life far more fulfilling.
Living your values takes courage. It’s not always easy, but it’s worth it. It’s about saying no when you’ve always said yes, stepping into discomfort to protect your true self, and making choices that resonate deeply with who you are.
The Call to Action
Here’s your challenge today: What’s one action you can take right now that aligns with your values?
Is it setting a boundary you’ve been avoiding?
Is it saying no to something that doesn’t serve you?
Or perhaps having the difficult conversation that brings you closer to living authentically?
You don’t need to change everything at once, but you must take that first step. Stop hiding behind titles and external expectations. Your values are what make you who you are. Live by them, and you will create a life that is purposeful and fulfilling.
Until next time,
Your coach, Mauro
